(Rising 7th - 12th) For the past two years, our students won more than 100 awards, including one national gold medal, two national  silver medals, 43 Gold Keys, 41 Silver Keys, 33 Honorable Mention awards, in the Scholastic National Writing Contests, the nation's most prestigious recognition program for young writers in grades 7–12. (Click here for details)

Such awards demonstrate students' high-level writing skills and add a  heavyweight to their resumes, boosting their advantages when applying to private high schools or colleges.

This course teaches students how to write better narrative work, including but not limited to short stories and poems. It covers critical narrative writing terms and devices by studying classics by a handful of modern and contemporary writers and then getting a chance to try our hand at writing new narrative drafts from a select number of prompts. Our teacher guides the students to turn a blank sheet of paper into a teeming concert of voices and plots and change how they and their readers think of the world and its inhabitants. Throughout the course, the students will have the opportunity to workshop their drafts and get feedback on their work, working towards more polished work that meets the prestigious Scholastic Writing Contest award.
